Open Championships Rules

 

NORTHERN IRELAND BOWLING ASSOCIATION

OPEN CHAMPIONSHIPS RULES

  1. Entry will only be accepted on the Official Championship Entry form, completed either on paper or electronic. All player names must be entered. Incomplete entry forms will not be accepted. There is no restriction on the number of entrants each Club may enter.
  2. The Open Championships competitions shall be open to members of affiliated Clubs in all the Divisions in NIBA League. The Open Championships competitions are constrained to only male members of Clubs affiliated to Irish Bowling Association.
  3. The competitions shall be played annually and the winners in the Singles, Junior Singles, Youth Singles, Pairs, Triples, Fours and Senior Fours Championships, provided they are members of a Club affiliated to the Irish Bowling Association, are automatically entered for the corresponding National Championships held by the Irish Bowling Association.
  4. Members of each Club may make their own arrangements with reference to the Pairs, Triples, Fours and Senior Fours.
  5. The same players must compete throughout the Competition unless satisfactory reasons are submitted for the substitution of not more than one player by a member of the same Club who has not already taken part in that Competition. The original player must be reinstated for subsequent games, if they so desire, and the same substitute must be used in that competition, if again required.
  6. Should an entrant in the Pairs, Triples, Fours or Senior Fours Competition withdraw through illness or other unforeseen circumstances prior to its commencement, another member of the Club may be nominated, who automatically becomes an original member of the Competition. Such nominations, in writing, must be forwarded to the Honorary Competitions Secretary before the start of the second round.
  7. General Competition Rules 1, 2, 5, 7, 8, 9, 11, 12, 13, 14, 15 and 16 shall apply.

 

OPEN SINGLE-HANDED CHAMPIONSHIP

  1. The Competition shall be called The Northern Ireland Bowling Association’s Open Single-Handed Championship.
  2. This Competition shall be open to all members of affiliated Clubs.
  3. The entrance fee shall be agreed at the AGM.
  4. Each game shall be 21 shots and each competitor shall play four bowls.
  5. No substitutes shall be allowed in singles ties.
  6. The Sir William Turner Challenge Cup will be presented to the winner and the James S. Bell Cup to the runner-up whose Clubs shall be responsible for the safe custody and return of same, upon conditions contained in Rule 14 of the Constitution and Rules.
  7. A suitable medallion will be awarded to the winning competitor and to the runner-up.

 

OPEN YOUTH SINGLE-HANDED CHAMPIONSHIP

  1. The Competition shall be called The Northern Ireland Bowling Association’s Youth Single-Handed Championship.
  2. This Competition shall be open to all members of affiliated Clubs.
  3. Competitors in this Championship must be under 18 years of age on 1 April in the current year.
  4. The entrance fee shall be agreed annually at the AGM.
  5. Each game shall be 21 shots and each competitor shall play four bowls.
  6. No substitutes shall be allowed in singles ties.
  7. The North Down Cup will be presented to the winner and The Oliver Cup to the runner-up, whose Clubs shall be responsible for the safe custody and return of same, upon conditions contained in Rule 14 of the Constitution and Rules.
  8. A suitable medallion will be awarded to the winning competitor and to the runner-up.

 

OPEN JUNIOR SINGLE-HANDED CHAMPIONSHIP

  1. The Competition shall be called The Northern Ireland Bowling Association’s Junior Single-Handed Championship.
  2. This Competition shall be open to all members of affiliated Clubs.
  3. Competitors in this Championship must be under 25 years of age on 1 April in the current year.
  4. The entrance fee shall be agreed annually at the AGM.
  5. Each game shall be 21 shots and each competitor shall play four bowls.
  6. No substitutes shall be allowed in singles ties.
  7. The A. Heatley Cup will be presented to the winner and the W. Noble Cup to the runner-up, whose Clubs shall be responsible for the safe custody and return of same, upon conditions contained in Rule 14 of the Constitution and Rules.
  8. A suitable medallion will be awarded to the winning competitor and to the runner-up

 

OPEN PAIRS CHAMPIONSHIP

  1. The Competition shall be called The Northern Ireland Bowling Association’s Open Pairs Championship.
  2. This Competition shall be open to all members of affiliated Clubs.
  3. The entrance fee for each Pair shall be agreed annually at the AGM.
  4. Each game shall be 21 18 ends and in the case of a tie an extra end shall be played to decide the winners. Each competitor shall play four bowls.
  5. The McAlevey Cup will be presented to the winners and The Glen Cup to the runners-up whose Clubs shall be responsible for the safe custody and return of same, upon conditions obtained in Rule 14 of the Constitution and Rules.
  6. Suitable medallions shall be awarded to the winning competitors and to the runners-up.

 

OPEN TRIPLES CHAMPIONSHIP

  1. The Competition shall be called The Northern Ireland Bowling Association’s Open Triples Championship.
  2. This Competition shall be open to all members of affiliated Clubs.
  3. The entrance fee for each Triple shall be agreed annually at the AGM.
  4. Each game shall be 21 18 ends and in the case of a tie, an extra end shall be played to decide the winners. Each competitor shall play three bowls.
  5. The Newsletter Cup will be presented to the winners and the Ulster Week Cup to the runners-up, whose Clubs shall be responsible for the safe custody and return of same, upon conditions obtained in Rule 14 of the Constitution and Rules.
  6. Suitable medallions will be awarded to the winning competitors and the runners-up.

 

OPEN FOURS CHAMPIONSHIP

  1. The Competition shall be called The Northern Ireland Bowling Association’s Open Fours Championship.
  2. This Competition shall be open to all members of affiliated Clubs.
  3. The entrance fee for each Four shall be agreed annually at the AGM.
  4. Each game shall be 21 18 ends and in the case of a tie an extra end shall be played to decide the winners. Each competitor shall play two bowls.
  5. The Lilliput Cup will be presented to the winning Four and the Richard Morgan Memorial Cup to the runners-up, whose Clubs shall be responsible for the safe custody and return of same upon conditions obtained in Rule 14 of the Constitution and Rules.
  6. Suitable medallions will be awarded to the winning competitors and to the runners-up. 

 

OPEN SENIOR FOURS CHAMPIONSHIP

  1. The Competition shall be called the Northern Ireland Bowling Association’s Senior Fours Championship.
  2. This Competition shall be open to all members of affiliated Clubs.
  3. Competitors in this Championship must be 55 years of age or over on or before 1 April in the current year.
  4. The entrance fee for each Senior Fours shall be agreed annually at the AGM.
  5. Each game shall be 18 ends and in the case of a tie an extra end shall be played to decide the winners. Each competitor shall play two bowls.
  6. The Senior Fours Cup will be presented to the winning Four and the Curran Cup to the runners-up, whose Clubs shall be responsible for the safe custody and return of same upon conditions obtained in Rule 14 of the Constitution and Rules.
  7. Suitable medallions will be awarded to the winning competitors and to the runners-up.
