Association Flag Unfurling 2024
President Mark Shannon unfurled our Association Flag at Bangor Bowling Club in Ward Park yesterday Saturday 13th April, thereby officially opening the 2024 season.
Accompanying Mark in above picture are from L/R, Henry McFarland President Irish Bowling Association, Mayor Jennifer Gilmour of Ards & North Down Council, Past President Tom Evans, NIBA President Mark Shannon, Wille McCaw President NI Provincial Bowling Association, William Watters President NI Private Greens Bowling League, Anne O’Herlihy President Irish Lawn Bowls and Keith Taylor the President of Bangor Bowling Club.
The ceremony commenced with Bangor President Keith Taylor welcoming everyone to Ward Park and graciously handed over the Bangor green to the NIBA for the day. Mayor Jennifer Gilmour reiterated Keith’s welcome and considered it a great honour to be invited, and highlighted the fact that Ward Park is the only venue in all Ireland with three superb council maintained greens. Mayor Jennifer then wished Mark a very enjoyable and successful year.
Last year’ s President Tom Evans handed over the Association flag which President Mark graciously accepted and hoisted after a short acceptance speech.
The customary challenge game between NIBA President’s Selection against members and guests of the Bangor Club followed in lovely sunny conditions on an excellent manicured middle green.
The Bangor Club finished a great day by entertaining their Guests to an excellent meal in Carnalea Golf Club and the NIBA wish to thank Bangor and indeed all those involved for their hospitality and companionship, which was very much appreciated by everyone.
