National Championships

Our Championships representatives travel south later this week to participate against their kindred Associations champions in the Irish National Finals, hosted by the BLI, on the synthetic surface at Dun Laoghaire Bowling Club this Friday and Saturday.

In the Semi-Final clashes on Friday, it’s an early start for Nathan Minish, Portadown who’s pitted against W Orr (Comber, NIPGL) in the Youth (U18) Singles starting at 9am. It’s an equally early start for the Banbridge four of Paul O’Keefe, Ian Gallagher, Gavin Clinghan and skip Aaron O’Keefe, again scheduled for 9am, up against the S Millane (Crumlin, BLI) four in the Open Fours.

The blue ribbon event begins at 10:45am with our very own Gerard McGleave, from Divis taking on G McCloy (Portrush, NIPBA) in the first Open Singles semi.

The afternoon session, at 2pm, brings the remaining four disciplines onto the green together. Cameron Gaw, Donaghadee faces J Byrne (Crumlin, BLI) in the Junior (U25) Singles, Aidan Corrigan & Mark Sproule (Portadown) challenge T Crawford & G Eaton (Salisbury, NIPGL) for that Open Pairs final slot, the trio from Bangor, Gary Clarke, Mark Shannon and Gary Scott face A Steele, A Davidson & W McCaw (Ballymoney, NIPBA) in the Open Triples and finally those Senior Four guys from Lurgan, Peter Dew, Iain Ferguson, Alan Briggs and Alan Roberts will do battle against J Mooney, I Hutton, P McVeigh and skip W Angus (Pickie, NIPGL).
